May 31 – World No Smoking Day!
World No Tobacco Day is celebrated around the world on May 31. Global No Tobacco Day is part of the UN system of global and international days. In 2021, this day will be held under the slogan “Time to Quit Tobacco”. Its goal is to draw attention to the problems of 8,000,000 smokers in Ukraine who need help to quit smoking.
2006 Ukraine joined the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
In Ukraine, 85,000 deaths annually are associated with smoking itself, and more than 14,000 – with the influence of second-hand smoke. To reduce the potential for harmful effects of smoke, the number of public places that will be completely non-smoking should be increased.
Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics fully supports the policy of banning smoking on the territory of the educational institution and takes concrete measures aimed at overcoming tobacco dependence, protecting people, in particular young people from advertising and marketing of tobacco products, informing about the risks of smoking, disseminating verified evidence, helping those who, who wants to quit smoking and create a tobacco-free generation.
On May 31, at the Department of Physical Education and Sports, a flash mob was held, timed to coincide with the World Day of Quitting Tobacco. The students filmed videos in which they speak out against smoking and for a healthy lifestyle. The purpose of the action: to increase the number of people who quit smoking.
