Title tournament in chess of international level “Young Talents – 2021”

Congratulations to Maria Berdnik with a successful performance in the title tournament of the international level “Young Talents – 2021” in chess. A first-year student of KhNURE, group PZPI-20-5 (English Stream) in the city of Kharkov took 2nd place, having overtaken many well-known grandmasters and international masters.

From 21 to 30 June c. Kharkov hosted the international title tournament “Young Talents – 2021” (IM-group).

The tournament was held with the participation of 12 participants from 5 chess federations of the world: Poland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Among the players were members of national teams, and prize-winners of Olympic competitions and champions of Ukraine of different years. In general, the tournament brought together the following composition: 2 international grandmasters, 1 female international grandmaster, 2 international masters, 2 female international masters, 1 FIDE master. The competitions were held according to the standard rules of classical chess (1 hour 30 minutes for each, +30 seconds after the made move, starting from the first).

18-year-old Maria Berdnik (male FIDE master, female international master and master of sports of Ukraine), having scored 7 points, showed the best result among women, overtaking the main rival from Poland, Alicia Slivitskaya (who, for your information, is the 2019 European champion among girls under 18 years) according to the results of a personal meeting and in the general tournament took 2nd place.

For your information, in chess Maria Berdnik are:

– nine-time champion of Ukraine in the classical game in different age categories and fifteen one-time of all types (classic, fast, lightning)

– the bronze medalist of the World Rapid Chess Championship among girls under 16 years old.

– Olympic vice-champion of the world on the fifth board as part of the national team of Ukraine 16 years old.

– the world champion among schoolchildren as part of the Ukrainian national team.

– Medalist of the World Championship among girls under 20 (prestigious youth competition)

– the only girl who has the title of FIDE male master in Ukraine;

– the best junior of Ukraine under 20;

– the reserve of the women’s national Olympic team of Ukraine.

She graduated from high school with a gold medal, was awarded the “Best student 2019” and “Young man 2018 (athlete nomination)” awards.
