On September 30, 2020, on the international chess Internet platform Chess.com, the online memorial in memory of the legendary Kharkov grandmaster, multiple winner of the student world championships as part of the USSR national team (1962, 1964-67), champion of the USSR 1971, Olympic champion as part of the national team finished USSR 1972 – Vladimir Savon. Anyone could take part in the tournament, so the memorial for the first time in its history gathered more than 200 participants of different ages from different countries of the world (even representatives of such distant countries as: Canada, USA, Indonesia, Thailand, Liechtenstein, France, etc.)! The competitions were held according to the Swiss system according to the rules of lightning chess (3 minutes each, 2 seconds after each move made, starting from the first).

From 4 to 13 February 2021 on the international chess Internet platform Lichess.com, an online memorial was held in memory of the very talented Odessa grandmaster, participant of the Ukrainian championships in classical chess, multiple medalist and champion of Ukraine in rapid and lightning chess – Stanislav Bogdanovich, who , unfortunately, very early and tragically passed away. The tournament was held in three qualifying stages, after which the best of the best played in the final. Despite such a strict selection, the tournament still gathered 134 participants from 18 countries of the world! The competitions were held according to the Swiss system according to the rules of lightning chess (4 minutes each, 2 seconds after each move made, starting from the first).

Male FIDE Master and Master of Sports of Ukraine, 18-year-old Maria Berdnik (by the way, Maria is the granddaughter of our chess legend – Vladimir Savon), having scored 8 points out of 11 possible in the first tournament and 8 points out of 14 in the second, took first place among women in both tournaments! In the overall standings in the tournament in memory of her grandfather, Maria took 16th place, and in the second tournament – 37th place. In both tournaments, our student had to play with international masters and grandmasters, but Maria managed to show her strength of character and compete on the same level with men.

We wish you not to be satisfied with what has already been achieved, continue to improve your results and move forward!
