Ukrainian Drafts-100 Cup among women

Congratulations to Popruga Vera with a successful performance in the Ukrainian Cup in International Drafts. In the city of Rivne, a student of KNURE (1st year, group MTTE-20-1) won two bronze medals in tournaments in classical and rapid games.

At the second in terms of the level of the tournament in Ukraine, from July 3 to 11, took place in Kiev, 26 athletes (14 men and 12 women) from 10 regions of the country took part. In competitions among women, half of the participants were one grandmaster and 5 masters of sports.

The first part of the Ukrainian Cup was opened by a classical time control tournament. In such competitions, taking into account the long time control (70 minutes per game + 1 minute for each move made), any of the rounds allotted for a match could last more than 5 hours. To identify the winner of the Cup, the women played 7 rounds according to the Swiss system.

Master of Sports Vera Popruga (coach – A. Panchenko) was one of three athletes who never lost to their counterparts. These three determined who and on what step of the podium will stand at the award ceremony. The second criterion for equality of points is the coefficient. Unfortunately, in the fight for the second place, he was worse than in the opponent from Kiev, so V. Popruga’s final place is third.

Tournaments for quick (15 minutes + 10 seconds) and lightning (5 minutes + 3 seconds) game controls were held on weekends.

Vera Podpruga’s tournament gait in women’s “rapid”, which was played with time control for 15 minutes per game + 10 seconds for each move made, resembled a sinusoid. In the first three rounds, albeit with some degree of luck, three victories were won, two of them over a strong master of sports and a grandmaster. Then there were two defeats, which rejected V. Popruga in the second half of the standings. Everything was decided by the final rounds, in which the student of KNURE scored 3 points out of 4, and was included in the number of three draftswomen, who shared the places from 3rd to 5th. Additional indicators were preferred this time. Vera managed to “catch on” for the extra match, in which the third place was played. The fight to two victories was won by Popruga, having won another medal, this time a bronze.

The next step is the online European Drafts-100 Championship among youth.
